I can close my eyes and see David so clearly as he was one of my better wrestlers on my team and in particular I remember this certain match he had and he had picked this guy up and put them in a cradle and it lifted them right off the mat and took them from his chest all the way down to the mat and I never saw anybody ever hit a cradle like that in my life. Afterwards when I went over the match with the team we all had a great laugh at how amazed I was that Barnabee hit that move like that it was wonderful. He was a wonderful kid I think about him often and think how tragic this was. God bless him in the Barbie family always

Bernie was one of my great friends at Campbell University, he was one of the few that could always light up a room with his loving and comical personality. He could turn a gray day sunny, and he had such a big heart that he would drop whatever he was doing to help someone in need. You all raised an amazing son, that is something to be very proud of these days! I will always cherish the memories Bernie and I shared together and look forward until we meet again! I love you and miss you so much! Lifting you all up in prayer!

My family and I are so sorry to hear of David's passing. I remember David as an incredibly caring, funny, and genuine person. I fondly remember our days wrestling at GlenOak for coach Milkovich where David always had a positive attitude and was a truly great teammate and friend. Your family is in our thoughts.

I would like to say to david's family how very sorry I am to learn of his passing. I had the privilege and honor to be David's wrestling coach and this young man gave us his very best to, not only me and his team mates, but also the Glenoak students and fans that enjoyed watching him perform. In fact there were very few teams that were able to compete with Mass Perry and in one of or biggest meets of the year David handily defeated his opponent from Perry which allowed us to beat that team that night in there own gymnasium ,in front of their home crowd. On this particular night david was magnificent and I will never forget his performance. I will surely miss him as will our wrestling family at glenoak. I thank you for being a part of my life and pray that god will help to see you all through this difficult time. sincerely, Coach Milkovich

To the entire Bernabei Family,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I served with your son as his Commanding Officer in Afghanistan for 7 months. David, known lovingly to us as "Bern," was a hard-working, dedicated, committed, and extremely talented Marine. Despite his junior rank, he served as a leader within our unit. He was respected and loved by all within Golf Battery - which turned out to be more of a family than a Marine Corps unit by the end of our 7 months together. There are so many stories that will live on within my heart and mind of your son. He will be sorely missed by all who served with him - but especially with Golf Battery who viewed him not only as a fellow Marine, but as a brother. Always available if you would like to hear more amazing stories of David and the type of young man he will always be remembered by with those who had the pleasure of serving with him.

Sincerely,
Captain Paul Fischer, U.S. Marine Corps
