David Edward Berry, known affectionately as Dave, passed away peacefully at home on July 27th, surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family.
Born on November 21, 1954, in Cañon City, Colorado, Dave was the second of four sons to H. Lloyd and Catherine Berry. He spent his childhood in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, where he developed a strong work ethic and deep community roots. A proud graduate of Cañon City High School class of '73 and Colorado State University, Dave earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Marketing.
In 1978, Dave married the love of his life, Sharon "Lil" Pebley, beginning a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose. Together, they raised two children: Nick (Rebecca) Berry of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Breanna (Tim) Hamby of Cañon City. Dave was a proud grandfather to Hudson and Reece Berry, Etta Mae Hamby and bonus granddaughters Savannah, and Makayla Miller.
Dave is also survived by his brothers Bob (Rhonda) Berry of Brookings, OR; Ken Berry of Cañon City, CO; and Don (Sharon) Berry of Cañon City, CO.
Brothers and Sisters in Law: Mark Pebley, Yolanda Pebley, Cindi (Ward) Colbert, Mary (Mike) Bell, and Beth (Tim) Gaffney.
Nieces and Nephews: Carissa Dickerson, Ryan Berry, Alex Berry, Devin Berry, James Berry, Bobbie Bastine, Christie Smith, Edwardo Valles Hernandez, Mathew Pebley, Michael Bell, Caitlin Schauer, Cassie Baird, Josh Reed (his Dunc Man), Ginny Reed and numerous great nieces, nephews and amazing friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Katy and Lloyd Berry; nephew Bennet Berry; and brothers-in-law Larry, Mike, and Christopher Scott Pebley.
Dave's professional journey began at the family automotive business, where he started washing cars and cleaning bathrooms at the age of 12. Over the next 30 years, he rose through various positions, ultimately becoming a co-owner and dealer principal. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to oversee the purchase of the Sunset Drive-In and develop the Sunset Business Park, which housed several businesses.
Deeply committed to his community, Dave served on numerous boards including Centura Health, Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs, and the Fremont Economic Development Council. He was a past president of both the Cañon City Chamber of Commerce and the Evening Lions Club, and a proud member of Rotary. He also represented Southern Colorado on the advertising boards for GMC Truck, Buick, and Pontiac.
After selling his interest in Berry Motor Company, Dave and Lil relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he founded IMC Group (Impact Marketing Co), a boutique marketing firm. He ran IMC Group for 23 successful years before passing the torch to his son Nick and daughter-in-law Rebecca.
Dave Berry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his generous heart. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 10:00 AM at the Post Office Event Center, the former Fremont Art Center, with Paul Hinson officiating. Following the service, a brief burial ceremony will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance.
