David Brandt Obituary

Published by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Jun. 15, 2017.
David F. Brandt David Frederick Brandt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2017, at the age of 90. David was born on August 8, 1926, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the eldest son of Rev. Frederick Martin and Esther (née Meyer) Brandt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his dear wife of 56 years, Lois Marie (née Hadde) Brandt. He is survived by: brother Rev. John (Barbara) Brandt; sister Jeannine (Dr Alan) Olson; three children, Alan (Kari) Brandt; Susan (Joel) Minster; and Stephen (Christina) Brandt; ten grandchildren, Nick (Shelly) Brandt, Stephanie (Dan) Farrell, Rebecca (Josh) Elder, Scott Minster, Peter Minster, Heidi (Aaron) Reinen, David Minster, Jason, Kelley, and Holly Brandt; five great-grandchildren, Peyton and Madison Brandt, Emma Reinen, Morgan Farrell, and Abby Elder; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was a faith-filled man of exceptional talents and with varied interests, most of which were in service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Wauwatosa, WI, where he was a member for more than 60 years, serving in nearly every leadership and service capacity and on numerous committees and support groups. He published “Pilgrim’s Progress,” the church newsletter, for many years, and sang Bass in the choir, doing so up until his death. And he continued to meet with his Men’s Bible Study Group every week. He was a man greatly blessed by God, who in turn was a blessing to all those with whom he came in contact. David was a Navy Veteran serving as a radioman aboard several destroyers and the Battleship USS Baltimore during World War II. He also served in the Mediterranean. Following his naval service, David had a successful career as a Structural Licensed Professional Engineer in Wisconsin. He attended Valparaiso University and graduated from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana. He worked for William Wenzler Architects and Strass-Maguire Engineers, both of Milwaukee; was a Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI); and taught at UWM and MSOE. He frequently donated his professional skills to numerous area service projects, church building programs, the Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee, and the LCMS South Wisconsin District Building Committee. And David loved making wine, enjoying membership in the Wisconsin Vintners Association and serving for more than 30 years as a wine judge at the annual Wisconsin State Fair. He and Lois loved to work in their hosta garden, nurturing more than 150 different varieties. They also loved their dear friends, the Golden Rocker Group from Pilgrim, a fun and loving group who together shared their faith, love, and family life through many years. Visitation Tuesday, June 20 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church 6817 W. Center Street, Milwaukee from 9 AM until the time of funeral service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or the Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee.

My sincere condolences to your family Steve.

June 20, 2017

As I remember my school days at Pilgrim, a classmate of Steve's, I honor the contribution of parents who consistently offered what they could to the church and school. Lois and David were heavily involved in so much. It was obvious the joy and fun they found in church and school work. So many of us benefited. God bless you from the Spors family.

Although I didn't see Dave much in the last couple of years, I'll always remember him as a gentle man who I will certainly miss. He was always willing to help and contributed words of wisdom when needed. My prayers and sympathy go out to the family.

A prayer for the Brandt family. "Heavenly Father, our time is always in Your hands. I bring before you the family of Al Brandt and all those who will be missing his dad, Dave. I pray that You will be close to each one who mourns. You are a God of comfort in times of need. Hold near the Brandt family as they face their time of sorrow. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen"

Dave was a wonderful man and a great conversationalist. We enjoyed his company and the many gardening discussions we had about our mutual love of hostas. Although we only had the privilege of knowing him for the last 12 years, we will miss him greatly. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family.
