David Edwin Brooks

David Edwin Brooks, 69, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 2 PM at Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Brooks-Hardee Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1 to 1:45 PM.
David spent much of his childhood overseas as part of a military family. He graduated from J. H. Rose High School and worked for many years as a mechanic with his father and brothers at Brooks Garage. He went on to work as a mechanic with ECU until his retirement. David was an active member of Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and working with the youth group. He also served as a scout leader with the Cub Scouts Pack 39 for a number of years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn Brooks; son, Dave Brooks, Jr.; and brothers, Jim Brooks and John Brooks.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jewel "Twinkle" Allen Brooks; daughter, Stephanie Brooks Bittner and husband, Greg;
grandchildren, Tanner Brooks, and Gray and Avery Bittner; sister, Lois Dail; brothers, Tom Brooks and wife, Janice, and
Larry Brooks and wife, Donna; and a number of nieces and nephews.
