We say goodbye to David "Dave" Burnaugh, who passed away at home in Woodstock, Georgia on November 11, 2025, from a brain tumor.

David Michael Burnaugh was born in Columbus, Indiana on August 30, 1972, to Michael and Nancy (Ackerman) Burnaugh. He grew up in Marietta, Georgia and graduated from George Walton High School in 1991. Dave was an avid soccer player throughout his school years and well into adulthood. Dave lived out his childhood dream to be a fireman, working for Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services for 18 years. He retired as a lieutenant effective October 2, 2025.

Dave was passionate about his family, the family dog Willow, firefighting and the Atlanta Falcons. He was both a gentleman and a gentle man. He always met you with a handshake or hug. Dave was an adoring husband to his wife of 26 years, a loving father to his two children, and a devoted brother to his two siblings and his brothers and sisters from the Fire Department. Dave was a loyal friend; he counted among his many friends people he had known since elementary school.

Dave married his wife Aimee on April 24, 1999. Together, they raised a son, Brandon, and a daughter, Ashtyn. He was very proud of both Brandon and Ashtyn and all they have accomplished, as well as of his nephew, Tyler.

Dave could not talk about family without mentioning his brothers and sisters at the Fire Department. He was so thankful for the friendships he formed and the mentoring and guidance he received from the beginning of his career to the end. Lt. Dave Burnaugh learned by example and was passionate about continuing the tradition of leading, learning and mentoring. He enjoyed postings at a number of stations throughout Cherokee County, including periods with the large animal rescue unit and at the Fire Training Complex. Whether Dave was at the station or off duty, he had his fellow firefighters' backs, and he knew they had his. The Burnaugh family thanks the entire fire department family for their assistance throughout Dave's treatment, with special thanks to Todd Mullins for his unwavering support and friendship.

Dave was a huge football fan. He enjoyed the Georgia Bulldogs and his fantasy football league, but his true love was the Atlanta Falcons. He was a loyal season ticket holder through some of the Falcons' more painful seasons. On any given Sunday in the fall, you could find Dave and Willow shouting at the Falcons game. As a Falcons fan, Dave was let down a lot, but he stayed true to the Dirty Birds until the very end.

He is survived by his wife Aimee (Hinkle) Burnaugh, his son Brandon Burnaugh, his daughter Ashtyn Burnaugh, his sister Becky Segrest (Victor), his twin brother Brian Burnaugh, parents-in-law Larry and Merritt Hinkle, sister-in-law Libby Hinkle, nephew Tyler Haygood (Savannah), great-nephew Hudson Haygood, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Woodstock City Church, 150 Ridgewalk Parkway, Woodstock, Georgia, 30188. Visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherokee Fire Foundation, www.cherokeefirefoundation.org.
