David Scott Byrka, 73, longtime Superior resident, passed away unexpectedly while at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN on Thursday, August 24, 2023, with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Superior on November 20, 1949, the son of Roman and Patricia (Goldfine) Byrka.
David graduated from Superior Senior High School and furthered his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND and the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he played football. David excelled in track & field and played football most of his life and was drafted by the Chicago Bears after college.
David was united in marriage to Linda Pank on June 24, 1992, and they recently celebrated thirty one wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
Through the years, David worked as a real estate agent for Century 21, East West Realty and Badger Realty. He later became a property appraiser with the City of Superior where he remained until his retirement.
David loved travelling internationally and especially loved going on worldly adventures with his wife, Linda. David was also a stock car racer. He often raced in Brainerd, MN and Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. Above all, David loved taking care of his family and helping others in need.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Linda; daughters, Staci (Chris) Stack and Lindsay Byrka, both of Superior, son Derek Byrka, Appleton, WI; stepchildren, Shawn (Lisa) Hanson, Michelle Hanson and Todd Hanson, all of Superior; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Burgraff, Devon Hanson, Darian (Luis) Serrano, Lacey Dallum, Alexia Hanson, Eli Dallum, Charlotte Johnson and Ella Stack; four great grandchildren, Luke Quinones, Aaliyah Hanson, Adeline Thayer and Emma Rivord; sister, Gayle (Jeff) Kuklinski, Mosinee, WI; father, Roman Byrka, Wausau, WI and his special canine companion, Maddie.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia, son-in-law, Louis Johnson and his longtime best friend, Doug Sutherland.
A Celebration of David's Life will begin at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at V.I.P., 1201 Tower Avenue in Superior, with a Time of Remembrance to begin at 2:00 PM with Gary Banker officiating, and fellowship to follow.
Should family and friends desire, memorials may be made in David's name to the National Kidney Foundation, 1970 Oakcrest Ave #208, St Paul, MN 55113; the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 2174; or the Carlton County Animal Rescue, 1110 Cloquet Ave. PMB 144, Cloquet, MN 55720.
