David Camarata Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Indiana on Dec. 2, 2025.
David Guy Camarata October 19, 1956 – November 14, 2025

The family of David Guy Camarata of Indianapolis is terribly saddened to announce his passing on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 69 years.

David was born to the late Guy Camarata and Mae Doggett Camarata on October 19, 1956, in Danville, Illinois. He was a 1974 graduate of Danville High School.

At the age of 19 he was fortunate to be hired by Merle Weaver of Weaver Refrigeration in Danville, an opportunity that kick-started his 50-year career in the HVAC/Refrigeration field. This profession was the perfect fit for his high aptitude for mechanical problem-solving. He was employed by Trane Technologies in Indianapolis for the last 30 years. His co-workers nicknamed him "Doc" out of mad respect for his technical expertise. He also was known for his excellent customer service and his unrelenting effort to do a good job.

He met Brenda Myers in Cayuga, Indiana and they were married in Danville on October 3, 1981. They bought a dilapidated farmhouse near Alvin, Illinois. For five years they lived in plaster and drywall dust to give the home a much-needed facelift. His heating, plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills allowed them to do the bulk of the work themselves, with the guidance of a grizzly old master carpenter from Tennessee, Joe Overcast. It was a proud accomplishment fondly remembered by both Him and Brenda, as they had performed this makeover in a time before YouTube videos.

He enjoyed tinkering in the garage. He started a hobby of flipping bicycles and performing bicycle repair for others. He was an avid cyclist, who would ride even in the heat of a sultry summer afternoon. He helped in their large garden, with his focus being on growing sugar baby watermelons. He loved to eat and it was a running joke with family and friends that he had a hollow leg where all that food went.

He loved his family. He was proud of his daughters, Adrienne and Alicia, for their personal and professional accomplishments. He supported their interests, including building two chicken coops for their 4-H show poultry. He also loved his cats and dogs, especially his cat, Bean.

David (aka Papa Bear, Pop Pop, Doc) was considered a great, funny, helpful, kind and tender-hearted guy by many.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; daughter Adrienne and her husband Matthew Parrish (New Palestine, Indiana) as well as their children Benjamin, Simon and William; daughter Alicia Camarata (Chicago); brother George Camarata and his wife Connie; his childhood best friend Dave Hedgpeth and his wife, Brenda; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sorely missed in his immediate family's "Mafia" text group.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate David will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or other tokens of sympathy, the family requests that donations be made to your local animal rescue/shelter or food pantry. David's family would like to thank the many individuals who have showered us with love and support during this very difficult time.

Final arrangements were entrusted to The Cremation Society of Indiana, 4115 Shelby Street. Please leave a message or share a memory.

Although I didn't see Dave as much in recent years, our families met through church and spent a lot of time together in the past. While the adults were always huddled in one room during getogethers, Dave had the tendency to slip away and play games with us kids. I always thought he was a great guy and at one point my dad and I nicknamed him "Super Dave", I don't know why, but it seemed to stick and he got a kick out of it. He was undoubtably one of my favorite people and I always hoped I might be like him someday. He was such a likeable guy, it was really something to be admired.
When I turned 16 and got my license, I used to drop in and visit Dave and Brenda and they would drop in and visit us as well. I always really enjoyed those visits.
One of my later memories of Dave was our gender reveal party. Everyone was to wear blue or pink to "vote" for your preferred gender outcome. Dave shows up wearing a pink shirt and all kinds of pink accessories. I think he had pink socks if I can remember. I start giving him a hard time and without missing a beat he says, "Let me tell you man, girls are awesome. My girls have just made me so happy over the years - happier than you would believe." Of course I know he was telling the truth. He has two wonderful daughters that have been my friends for years. I hope the family knows how much I care about them and that I'm thinking about them and I'm always here if you need me.

The Ford family will so miss David´s laughter at our Euchre card nights. We absolutely loved riding bikes together on the Pennsy trail together too. He was a good man who worked hard to provide for his family. Hugs go out to the Camarata family.
