Deane Carol Camarata, 82, of Marion, passed away at 8:40 am on Monday, November 4, 2024, in her home. She was born in Gary, Indiana, on Tuesday, November 11, 1941, to Thomas and Dorothy Cook.
After graduation from Hobart High School, Deane attended nursing school at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as an RN in 1963. She later specialized in Psychiatric nursing and worked at the Larue Carter Hospital at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. She married Dr. James Camarata in 1965 in Denver, Colorado, and put her career aside to raise three wonderful children who survive her: Anthony (Sara), Lisa (Roy), and James Thomas (Tracy). She is also survived by one sister, Lynnette Stephens (Hobart), and four grandchildren: Erica, Sammy, Olivia, and Vincent.
For many years, Deane was very active in the Grant County Literacy Council and taught several adults how to read--something she was always very proud of having accomplished. She loved to work in the yard, fish, read, travel, IU football games, and visit with her children and grandchildren.
Urn burial will take place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.
