David Edmund Canfield, age 77, of Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 16, 2024, following an illness. He was born in Battle Creek, MI, on May 14, 1947, to the late James and Betty (Freeman) Canfield.
Dave graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1965 and earned a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. During his college years, he started doing income taxes for friends, which continued throughout his life. Dave served in the Army Reserves in Battle Creek. He worked at Eaton Corporation (later, Oxford Automotive) and retired after 35 years as a quality control manager.
Dave loved to travel, bowl, play softball, fish, and golf. He was an avid bowler and his picture hung on the wall at Nottke's bowling alley for many years. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing at Indian Run where he was known as a dog whisperer to Matt's dogs.
Dave married Carol (Wilson) Canfield in 1988. They moved to Portage on a lake where they did a lot of traveling, fishing, and playing golf.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Canfield; brother, Ron Canfield; sister, Karen Wright; and beloved dogs, Sadie, Abby, and Bella.
Surviving is his wife, Carol; daughters, Tara Canfield and Lori Canfield with his first wife, Sherry Doubledee; step-sons, Darryl Bria and Darrick Bria; sister, Judy (Tom) Green; and many nephews and cousins.
