David Eugene Carpenter, Sr.

David Eugene Carpenter Sr., 79, of Sawyer passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville.

A funeral service will be held 11 AM on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, MI 49106. Friend may meet with the family prior to the service on Thursday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Weesaw Township Cemetery, Buchanan. David was born on May 28, 1946 in Bakertown, Michigan the son of the late David and Geraldine (VanAntwerp) Carpenter. On March 21, 1964 he married the former Ruby Milliken, and she preceded him in death on July 2, 2004. David worked at Industrial Fabrication in Bridgman for many years. He was a jack of all trades and self-titled “junk dealer”. David was also a fan of classic cars and motorcycles.

Survivors include his sons: David (Betty) Carpenter Jr., and Michael Carpenter; grandchildren: Daniel (Tricia) Smelker-Cheeseman, and Melissa Holt; great-grandchildren: Autumn, Steven, Summer, Alyssa; great-great grandchildren: Kayden, Audrey, Nola; and sisters: Jackie Ward, and Linda Stampohar.

David was also preceded in death by a son, John Carpenter; brother: Donald Carpenter; and sister, Jane Tackett.
