David Adrien Chastanet, M.D. of
White Plains, New York, died peacefully on December 22, 2025 at Brightview Senior Living of Tarrytown, New York in the company of his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Marie (Santucci) Chastanet. He was born in Castries, Saint Lucia, West Indies, on March 1, 1934, the eighth of ten children, son of Arthur Louis Charles Chastanet and Iris Florestine (Monplasir) Chastanet. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Olive Germaine Chastanet (1920–2007), Alan Arthur Chastanet, M.D. (1921–2008), Elaine Cynthia Mary Chastanet (1923–1941), Audrey Francis Chastanet (1924–1976), Dennis Vernon Peter Chastanet, M.D. (1926–2008), Desmond Joseph Chastanet, MEng (1929–2015) and June Eileen (Chastanet) Zenar (1931–2011).
Primary Education: St. Mary's College in Castries, St. Lucia. Undergraduate Education: 1955 to 1957 - Pre-Medical Studies at The Sir John Cass College, London, England; Medical Education: 1958 to 1963 - graduated from Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany; Post-Graduate Education: 1963 to 1964 - Robert Koch Klinik of Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany preparing for Doctoral Thesis; Internship: July 1964 to June 1965 - Kingston Public Hospital, Jamaica; Residency: March 1966 to June 1966 - Radiology at New York Medical College [Metropolitan Hospital], New York, New York and July 1966 to June 1969 - Veteran's Administration Hospital, Bronx, New York. He was a board certified radiologist and a Diplomate - American Board of Radiology who practiced at Fordham Hospital, Bronx, New York, Yonkers General Hospital, Yonkers, New York, Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, New York, Assistant Professor of Radiology at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York, Consultant in Ultrasound at the WCHC Mount Vernon (formerly known as Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center), Mount Vernon, New York, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital,
White Plains, New York, Morrisania Diagnostic & Treatment Center, Bronx, New York and the WCHC Greenburgh (formerly known as Greenburgh Health Center),
White Plains, New York as well as private practices in the Bronx, New York. He retired at the age of 80 in 2014 after practicing medicine for 46 years.
Dr. Chastanet was a parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, New York. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends and co-workers alike. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching soccer, boxing and the Olympics. He was a lover of cable news. While Dementia eventually stole much of his cognitive ability, we are comforted by the fact that he has found peace after a life well lived.
Dr. Chastanet is survived by his wife, Rose Marie (Santucci) Chastanet of
White Plains, New York; and their three children: Frances Iris (Chastanet) Stoohs of Croton-on-Hudson, New York; David Arthur Chastanet of
White Plains, New York, and Anthony Vinson Chastanet of Scarsdale, New York. Frances Iris (Chastanet) Stoohs is married to Kevin Stoohs and their son, Dylan Adrien Stoohs, is the only grandchild. He also leaves two remaining younger siblings, his brother, Sir Michael Thomas Chastanet, KCMG, CMG, OBE (British honours including a knighthood (KCMG) in 2019, a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 2010, and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001), of Castries, Saint Lucia, West Indies, and his sister, Alice Ursula Theresa (Chastanet) Kefalas of Lexington, Massachusetts, as well as numerous extended family residing in the United States, Saint Lucia, France, England and Martinique.
Visiting hours will be Friday, January 2, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, Inc. located at 491 Mamaroneck Avenue,
White Plains, New York 10605.
The funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Church located at 2 Broadway, Valhalla, New York 10595 will be celebrated by Reverend Abraham Berko.
Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
