Susan Ewert

Susan Ewert, nee Bush, 66, lifelong Lake Bluff and Lake Forest resident, passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2026, surrounded by the family she adored.

A proud alumna of Saint Mary's College in South Bend, Susan's Biology degree reflected her deep reverence for life. Whether tending to cats, dogs, or horses, her compassion for all living creatures was a defining trait.

Susan found her greatest joy in her marriage to her husband, Greg, and in the rewarding journey of raising their two sons. Her home was built on a foundation of selflessness and a sense of humor that could brighten the darkest of days. A woman of unwavering faith, she was an active parishioner of the St. Patrick Church community, where her bible study groups became the source of cherished friendships. Her warmth and genuine interest in others also drew a wide circle of friends, many of whom remained dear to her throughout her life.

For generations, her family's summer home in Canada served as her sanctuary. It was there, and at home, that she demonstrated the quiet grace that defined her eight-year battle with stage IV ovarian cancer. Susan didn't just meet her prognosis; she defied it, exceeding every expectation with a strength that remains an inspiration to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of nurturing love and an indomitable spirit.

Susan is survived by her husband of 36 years Dr. Greg Ewert, her boys Kyle (Hayley) and Sean; her brother Robert; her horse Pearl; and her cherished dogs Kam and Callie. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Geraldine.

Funeral Mass for Susan will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 7th at St. Patrick Church of Lake Forest, 950 W Everett Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045.
