Wonderful obituary, and so very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was a teammate of mine on a couple different fastpitch softball teams. Dave was a pitcher, and a darn good one at that, having won many softball titles. He played the game the right way and always gave it everything he had. But he never let the will to win get in the way that he was a representative of the sport and a gentleman first. I learned a great deal from Dave and I am honored to know such a good man.

My condolences to the Young family .. Dave was just like a brother to me.. Him and I traveled all of the ice belt to ice fish. He taught me a lot about the ice fishing world beyond our area that I fished. He always would tell me to not look at the audiences we were doing seminars at because he knew how nervous and tongue tied I would get in front of a crowd He was a master of teaching describing and fishing with the Tight Lining Technique. When Dave walked on the ice at a tournament he had one thing on his mind and that was the win.. He was never satisfied with 2nd 3rd place. that's what kept him such a fierce competitor. He knew every trick in the book to get him to number one. He and his son Mark changed the way major tournaments were run because they were always at the top and most couldn't compete at that level. Dave always said the best fisherman in not just the USA but the world came out of a 50 mile radius of Charlotte Michigan. He also had another great partner Mike Boedeker for the NAIFC tournaments. Dave always said when he picked Mike that he would find the fish he could rely on Mike to put fish on the ice no matter what. Dave knew how to win but most of all Dave's love for his family always shined through everything else. Whenever I would visit or after a day of fishing with Dave to his home and we were treated to some of the best meals ever by his wife Chris.. I will never forget their hospitality of the family and I will never forget what Dave and his did for me..
