Philip Wallace, 62, of Charlotte, a man with the biggest heart and whose laughter could fill the room, died March 8, 2026. Phil was born May 27, 1963 in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Rev. Charles and Anne (Madison) Wallace.
Phil was a man of many interests and boundless enthusiasm. He loved music and theater and shared that passion for more than 20 years as the nurse at Charlotte High School Band Camp, where he became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of students. Music was always close to his heart-he especially loved drumming and could often be found tapping out a rhythm on just about anything nearby.
Phil also cherished spending time with his children, especially attending sporting events together. He was a loyal fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Iowa football and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams.
Healthcare was Phil's lifelong calling. He earned his Paramedic Certification from Davenport University and began his career in Detroit in the mid-1980s. He later served the Charlotte community for many years at Hayes Green Beach Hospital and also worked alongside Dr. Thiel and Dr. Ferro. His dedication to helping others was evident in everything he did. Some may also remember Phil from his appearance on the television program Rescue 911 in the 1990s.
Though Phil never sought recognition, he hoped simply to be remembered by those he helped and served along the way. Above all else, Phil loved his family deeply and gave them his whole heart.
Phil is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter Morgan (Will Miller) Wallace; son, HM2 Quincy (Brooke) Wallace; daughters, Emily (Sean) Brown and Tara (Alex) Kunzweiler; grandchildren, Auden, Amaya, Liam, Logan, Lacie and Flynn; siblings, Linda (Daniel) Wiltfang, Terry (Mark) Huisenga, Joel (Sharleen) Wallace, Martha (Royce) Sands, several extended family, and special friend Kent Vickery. He is predeceased by his parents; nephew, RJ Sands; and cousin, Bruce Crabb.
