David LeRoy Cook

David "Dave" Cook, 90, of Brownsville passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was born to Elbert Richard and Gertrude May (Galbert) on May 29, 1934. Dave would tell everyone that he was a miracle baby being born at 2 pounds 3 ounces and living in a shoe box behind the wood stove.
Dave proudly served in the US Army for 5 months and 22 days before being discharged due to a recurring childhood injury. During his life, he also worked as a farmhand, mill worker, logger/log truck driver, sheep farmer, and according to his friends and family, he grew "the best darn corn in the valley." He would brag that it was "So good that my pigs wouldn't even eat anything but my corn." Dave semi-retired in 1998 and fully retired in 1999.
In his free time, Dave enjoyed camping and fishing at East Lake, hunting, gardening and sitting under his big shade tree. He was always working with his hands and whenever possible he did all his own upgrades, modifications, and repairs to his vehicles and farm equipment. His strong work ethic and skills were evident in all his endeavors.
Dave is survived by daughters: Lil Coke of Roseburg, Oregon, Lois Kelly of Brownsville, Oregon, as well as 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gertrude, siblings Albert, Lucille "Grace," and "Tommy," his first wife and mother to his children, Agnes "Arlene", his two oldest daughters Loretta Gilcrest and Linda Chant, as well as his second wife Barbara Jean "Granny,".
Dave will be deeply missed by all that loved and knew him.
Viewing will be 10 am Saturday, June 15th at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral will follow at 11 am. Burial will take place at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.
