David J. Cox, 63, of Fairfax, Iowa, died of complications from alcohol use disorder on Thursday, August 14, 2025. The family will host a Celebration of Life from 6 to 9 p.m. on August 29, 2025, at the Fairfax Community Room, 300 80th Street Court, Fairfax. A time of remembrance will be held at 6:30 p.m. Following his passing, David contributed to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank in support of research.
David was born October 20, 1961, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Raymond and Maryann (Scanlon) Cox. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1981. In his youth, David earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. He was united in marriage to Jeryl Ann Ellison on September 24, 1994, in Cedar Rapids. David worked for Kingman Transfer & Warehouse Co., Central Distributors Inc., and retired from JP Gasway Co. in 2021. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and watching sports - especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Indianapolis Colts, of which he was a lifelong fan.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jeryl Cox of Fairfax; daughter, Cameron Cox of North Liberty; brother, Rob Cox of Anamosa; and his beloved dogs, Bella and Preston (a Dogs Forever alumni).
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy Timm.
