David “Dave” George Shaw, 82, of Springville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Terrace Glen Village in Marion, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, with a Rosary beginning at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville, officiated by Father John Flaherty. An additional visitation will begin one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at the church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Colesburg, Iowa. Dave was born on May 7, 1943, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Oliver W. and Frances A. (Scanlon) Shaw. He attended Manchester High School before serving honorably in the United States Army. Dave was united in marriage to Constance Ryan of Masonville. Two children were born to this union. The couple later divorced. He was united in marriage to Elaine Mary (Gaul) Hildebrand on December 6, 1985, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. Dave worked at ADM for over 33 years, until retiring in 2001. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, gardening, making bread, playing cards, and spending time with family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dave is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Peter (Vicki) Shaw, Joe (Brandi) Shaw, Kevin (Cheri) Hildebrand, Debie Vorwald (Brad), Terry Hildebrand (Ronnee), Linda Hildebrand (Jamie), and Donna (Richie) Drake; grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Lila, Colin, Emily and Gracie Shaw, Ashley (Cody) Brehme, Mitchel Hildebrand, Natasha (Greg) Studelska, Emily and Daniel Vorwald, Cole and Riley Hildebrand, Allison (Matt) Shebek, Chloe Rudnicki and Tyler Drake; great-grandchildren, Flint, Gantz, Kenleigh, Macklee, Ora, Everett, Stassi, Bristol, Aislyn, John, Burkley, Cashton and Lakeley; siblings, Genevieve (Robert) Frentress, Iola Millard, Lawrence (Kay) Shaw, Douglas (Mary) Shaw, Charlotte Shaw, Joanne Hansel (Jim Bandy), Nancy Savago, and Marie Shaw; in-laws, Robert Manternach, John Joe (Kay) Gaul, Phyllis Hildebrand, Karla (Bob) Kluesner, Barbara Gaul, Judy Gaul and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Shaw; parents, Oliver and Frances Shaw; parents-in-law, George and Alice Gaul; brothers, Richard, Francis, Charles (Marilyn) and Michael Shaw; sisters, Marjorie Shaw, Helen Manternach and an infant sister; brothers-in-law, Glen Millard, Kenneth Hansel, Ronald Savago, Daniel Gaul, Patrick Gaul, Jerry Hildebrand and niece, Deb Klostermann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to Dave’s favorite charities.
