David Davenport Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gramer Funeral Home - Clawson on Jan. 21, 2026.
David C. Davenport, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026.
David was born on May 21, 1938, in Welland, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in the Royal Oak area of Michigan. He later made his home in Clawson, Michigan, where he resided for many years.
David attended Shrine of the Little Flower beginning in 1956. He enjoyed the freedom of driving and playing golf. David, like his mother, had a green thumb. In his younger days, he enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and later in life, the flowers in his front and back yards. He was always brightened by the peaceful beauty of nature. He loved music of all kinds and, as a youth he learned to read music and play the piano, skills he briefly rekindled later in life. Spending time with family and friends brought him much joy throughout his life.
He was employed at Kenwal Steel Company (first in Detroit and later in Dearborn) eventually being promoted to plant manager and later working in quality control. David retired in 2000 after 35 years of dedicated service.
However, when asked what he would have chosen to do as his life's work, if the society around him had given him a real choice, David immediately said he would have been an artist, specifically, an industrial artist.
David also enjoyed many friendships as an active member of his faith community.
He was married to Josalynne M. Davenport (née Ciaccio), who preceded him in death on July 12, 2006. David and Josalynne were married on June 28, 1960, and again on May 17, 1975. Following her passing, David remained a widower.
David was the loving son of Richard William Davenport and Gertrude Bernadette Davenport (née Brown) and was the second of six sons born to them. He was preceded in death, not only by his parents, but by oldest brother Richard and next younger brother Clifford.
He is survived by his children, Duncan C. Davenport and Brittany Davenport; his siblings, Doug (Susan) Davenport, Paul (Christine) Davenport and Kevin (Barb) Davenport; sister-in-law Kathy (Richard) Davenport and many extended family members and friends.
Per David's wishes there will be no services, and cremation has already taken place.
