David Dechert Obituary

He was born on December 10, 1961 in Park Ridge, Illinois to Edward and Joan (Schreiner) Dechert. He married the love of his life, Cathy Grasser, in Algonquin, Illinois in 2000. David spent his entire career with Nicor Gas and earned his bachelor's degree in engineering. After retiring, David took great pride in maintaining his yard. He had a love of the water, spent much of his spare time fishing or boating. He was a collector of vintage arcade games, especially slot and pinball machines. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cathy Dechert; his sons, Nicholas (Savannah Svedman) Dechert and Nathan Dechert; his sister, Nancy (Alan) Swirsley; sister-in-law, Barb (Rich) Koivisto; nephews, Steve (Andrea) Koivisto, Andy Koivisto, Adam Swirsley; and niece, Nicole Swirsley as well as many friends and extended members of family.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his nephew Scott Koivisto and aunt, Esther Dechert. Also his beloved dogs Emmet and Coal, who we're sure gave him an enthusiastic greeting at the Rainbow Bridge.
Visitation will be held from 2pm-5pm on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at DeFiore Funeral Home –10763 Dundee Rd. Huntley, Illinois 60142. Memorial donations are suggested to an animal shelter of your choice.
