David Harry Delegator, of
Cincinnati, OH, beloved husband and friend, passed away on October 3, 2025, from complications of multiple myeloma He was 77. He fought for over 10 years under the wonderful, expert care of Dr. Essell, and all the staff at OHC Kenwood. The care, concern and kindness of Tracy, all of the phlebotomists, treatment room nurses, Deanna, and Carla was incredibly special to him.
Born on May 4, 1948, to the late Maurice and Anna Belle Delegator in New York City. TB the cat was his constant protector, watching over him in his crib. From birth, David was never without a cat in his life. At the age of 5, the family returned to
Cincinnati, OH where David attended North Avondale Elementary school, Woodward High School and the University of Cincinnati.
After graduating from UC, David worked in radio during the original days of WAIF. After living in Oregon, David moved to New Orleans in 1978 where he continued his radio work radio at WWNO. It was there he met his wife, Terri Upshaw. Eventually, he left radio and worked for many years for the IRS at the walk-in counter where he helped countless people with their tax issues. In 1998, he returned to Cincinnati to care for his Mom. He returned to radio with a Wednesday evening jazz show at WVXU. In addition to his jazz show, he did book reviews, author interviews, and thought pieces for NPR.
David loved Jazz and the Blues, his wife Terri, his cats, his family and friends. He attended the New Orleans Jazz Festival every day for many, many years, starting in 1979. He loved trying new restaurants, reading cookbooks and cooking. He NEVER saw a dozen raw oysters that did not need eating. David loved football and baseball, and rooted for the Reds, Bengals, New Orleans Saints, and through marriage, Alabama football and softball.
David was gregarious and could talk to anyone. He made numerous lifelong friends wherever he lived.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Terri Upshaw, along with cousins, and dear friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved Grandmother, Rose, and all the cats over the years that shared his life.
Funeral service will be held at Weil Kahn Funeral Home, 8350 Cornell Road,
Cincinnati, OH on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM. with Visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Love Brothers Cemetery, 1619 Rosemount Ave.,
Cincinnati, OH 45205.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David's memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF.org).
Though the twinkle in his eye, and grin on his face will be dearly missed, David's spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
