David Allen Demmon, 72, of Monticello, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at his home.
He was born on February 6, 1953 in Gary, IN to the late Arthur and Audrey (Stocker) Demmon. On August 8, 1972 he married Dorothy Glasgow in Louisville, KY. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2010.
David was a 1971 graduate of Merrillville High School. He received a bachelor degree in elementary education from Purdue University and a master’s degree in education as a reading specialist from Indiana University. He retired from the United States Air Force after twenty-six years before becoming a teacher from which he retired in 2020. He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church where he helped with Soup for the Soul, served on the church school board and drove the golf cart to assist people in getting from the parking lot to the building. He was a CASA volunteer and volunteered with the Department of Veterans Affairs driving veterans to medical appointments. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, mowing the grass and spending time with family. He was an avid Cubs fan. He loved ALL of his family and loved being a "dad of girls". He loved his sons-in-law as his own sons. He loved road trips with his grandkids. His favorite saying was "Quit wishin', go fishin'!"
He is survived by daughters, Mary (Chris) Phillips of Choctaw, OK; Jeniffer (Jon) Mackey of Newalla, OK; grandchildren, Brittney Mackey, Daniel Phillips, Elizabeth Mackey, Anthony Phillips, and Joseph Mackey; sister, Debra (Ron) Ward; sister-in-law, Sherry Demmon; nieces, Sarah Demmon, Jamie Ricci, Amanda Lewis, Ashley Burcham, Alyssa Pugliese; and fur baby, Lizzo, a mini Aussie Doodle.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dorothy, he was also preceded in death by a partner, Peggy Vultaggio and brother, Dennis Demmon.Visitation will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 from noon until the time of services at 2:00 pm at Monticello United Methodist Church with Pastor Justin Cason officiating.Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes.org formally known as the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF) or the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
