David Deon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buck Funeral Home, Inc - Norwood on Dec. 11, 2025.
NORFOLK - David A. Deon, 71, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, after a short, unexpected stay at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. David was born on June 4, 1954, as the son to Donald Sr. and Dorothy Deon in Potsdam, NY.

David was a jack of all trades. He started his adulthood by joining the NAVY in 1972. After his tour ended, he had many odd jobs up until he started working at the Norwood-Norfolk Central School as a bus driver then he would move on to become a cleaner and sweeper. He spent 30 years working for the school. Once he retired from NNCS in 2012, he wouldn't sit still, he started working at the ARC as a driver. Finally he decided retirement sounded good and he enjoyed every minute of it.

David's first marriage was to Robin Stark, which ended in divorce. David then met and married Marie Murray. That marriage also ended in divorce. Finally in 1990 he reconnected with a kindergarten classmate, Janet Claffey, they wed in 1994, where he would stay married up until his passing. David loved music and for many years he played the bass guitar in multiple bands. He enjoyed spending time tinkering around the garage. Whether it was woodworking or just relaxing- classic rock music was always heard. He loved his Harley Davidson. David and Janet took a trip to South Dakota on his Harley where many wonderful memories were made and he enjoyed racing stockcars. He enjoyed fixing them up and hitting the track. David had a risky side to him as well. He very much liked skydiving. He enjoyed it when his daughter joined him in a jump. After he retired, he discovered all the great television shows and he could be heard laughing at them all. He very much loved his Turner Classic Movies, but anyone that knew David, knew what he enjoyed most was making people laugh. His humor and quick-wit will be missed by all. Although David had many passions in life, his main passion and love was for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing made him happier or prouder than them. Baseball, hockey and basketball games, David enjoyed watching them all and cheered those grandkids on. He enjoyed taking them on four wheeling trips and fishing trips, or even just a sleepover with them at home watching SpongeBob for the 20th time.

David is pre-deceased by his father, Donald Deon Sr., a sister, Darlene Correia and a nephew, Justin Brothers. David is survived by his mother, Dorothy Deon of Norwood, his sisters, Deb & George Kimble of Norwood, Dewey & Diane Richards-Deon of Norwood and Donna Knoepke of Troy, MT; his brothers Dan & Judy Deon of West Potsdam and Donald Jr. & Candy Deon of Norwood; his spouse, Janet Deon of Norfolk; a son, Joshua & Carrie Deon of Jacksonville, FL.; a daughter, Tammy Sessions of Louisville and a daughter, Tasha Deon of Raymondville. With the marriage to Janet, also came children that David treated and loved as his own. Jonathan Brothers and Amanda Trumble of Pulaski; Bobbie-Jo & Ronald of Norfolk, Tina Brothers & Ron Crill of Verona, NY and Amanda & Ben Fregoe of Norwood. David is also survived by his very loved 14 grandchildren: Alex Deon, Brittany Foster, Kylee Rheaume-Deon, Blake Deon, Bryce Muldoon, Jacoby Muldoon, Odin Thrana, Zachary Sessions, Luke Saumnier, Azure Saumnier, Matthew Robinson, Emmaleigh Fregoe, Kaleb Fregoe and Jaten Fregoe and his 5 great-grandchildren, Sienna and Cierra Deon, Axle, Lyrik and Echo Foster as well as several nieces and nephews, which he loved. When David and Janet moved to their current residence, David received a wonderful neighbor who quickly turned into a friend, Matt Monroe. Thank you Matt for the many years of friendship and all the help you provided him. While David will be missed forever, we know his dog, Chloe and him are now reunited and oh what a reunion that must have been!

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bucks Funeral Home in Norwood. Burial will be held in Hale Cemetery, Norfolk this spring with a Celebration of Life following. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com .
