David Don DeTomaso, known to friends and family as Dave, 81, of Elmhurst, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Chicago on June 17, 1943, Dave was the son of Domenic and Rosalie DeTomaso. He spent a 34-year career at Alberto Culver, where he rose to Senior Executive Vice President of the Professional Division. After retiring in 1997, he enjoyed a full and active retirement - splitting time between his homes in Elmhurst, IL and Puerto Vallarta, MX, traveling, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.

Dave was a devoted fan of all Chicago sports and an accomplished golfer. A longtime member of River Forest Country Club, he spent countless summer days on the course, collecting tournament wins and trophies along the way.

He is survived by his wife of 39-years, Connie; his children Debby (David) Criter, Joe (Michelle) DeTomaso, Becky (Jim) Brady, and Jimmy (the late Dionne) DeTomaso; and his grandchildren David Ryan, Maddy, the late Nicholas and Adam Criter; Katlyn, Molly, and Abbey Heneghan; Austin and Dylan Luebke; and Dominic DeTomaso. He is also survived by his brother Marty (Debbie) Szewczyk, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Sue (Connie) Szewczyk.

Dave was deeply devoted to his family. He passed along hard-earned life lessons to his grandchildren - known lovingly as "Grandpa-isms": show up early, shake hands firmly, make strong eye contact, ask for what you want, and always be the first in and the last to leave. His thoughtfulness, generosity, and steady presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home, 435 N. York St., Elmhurst, IL, on Monday, June 9, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday, June 10, with prayers at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for an 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass.

Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Naperville, IL.

Dave and Connie were a wonderful pair and great hosts. Dave was a strong leader and a great friend as well. It was a blessing to have worked for him and Mike Stangel. We were able accomplish some great things at AC and built great memories. I will miss playing golf with Dave and losing to him. His legacy is a large wonderful family and many friends.

I am so sad to hear of Dave's passing. I worked with Dave starting in 1972 at Alberto-Culver. A truly great guy who helped me along the way. He will surely be greatly missed. My condolences to his loving family.

Thank you Dave for bringing me into the family after Sue passed away. You are a very dear friend and I shall miss you. Loved our lunches and your mentoring. Now I have another empty spot in my heart. Rest in peace dear Dave.
