David Alton DeVane, 80 of Jacksonville, passed away with his family by his side Thursday, October 10, 2024. David was born September 27, 1944 in Jacksonville and grew up in Palatka. David would join the United States Army Reserves at the age of nineteen, and would serve his country for eight years. Mr. DeVane would go on to work in the steel industry as a machinist. In his free time, he was an avid sports fanatic, enjoying going to Jaguars, Jumbo Shrimp and Gator games. David was also a talented woodworker and painted houses on the side. He loved to watch western movies as well.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Theaster (Hall) DeVane; a sister, Catherine DeVane; and a brother, Larry Pippin.
He is survived by his son, David Wayne (Kimberly) DeVane of Jacksonville; grandchildren, David Wayne, Jr., Chelsey, Damien Alton, Joseph and Jasmin; one great grandchild, Paisleigh; and a sister, Deborah Norman of Macclenny.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Green Cove Springs with Rev. David Griffis officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery beginning at 12:00 PM.
