David DiGenti Obituary

The Boston Red Sox lost one of their biggest fans on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. David DiGenti passed away at home with his wife, Pat, by his side, after a brief battle with cancer. David was 76 years old, born on Oct. 4, 1947, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Frank John DiGenti and Emily Arcidiacono DiGenti.
David grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and earned a Bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University. After a career in the food and beverage industry, David returned to University of North Florida and earned his teaching certificate and a Masters in Education.
David first taught at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School. He then went on to Fernandina Beach High School for the next 20 years, where hundreds of young people he taught referred to him as Mr. D. David had a lot of love in his heart, especially for animals, music and reading. He also loved to travel, and especially enjoyed traveling to Maine with Pat in the summer.
David was predeceased by both his parents and grandparents but is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years, Pat Howell DiGenti; his brother, Victor DiGenti (Evanne), and their two sons Greg (Claire) and Brian (Joy); and his sister, Patty DiGenti Wager (Bob), and their children, Cheryl Ous (Ed), and their children Nicole (Trey) and Emily, and Patty's son, Frank Burr (Martha).
David will be missed by his 14 nieces and nephews, his extended family and friends near and far. A private celebration of his life is planned. If you'd like to honor David, play catch with your kids or feed the birds or rescue a cat or dog.
David would love that.
