David Alvin Diliberto, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday afternoon on October 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born and raised in New Orleans. His life was marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his profession. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1969, he began a distinguished career that spanned more than 40 years. He started his occupation in Dallas, TX as an aeronautical design engineer developing innovative gear and linkage systems for aircrafts. After two short years, the desire to move back home to be near his family and grow his own caused him to transition his engineering skills to a career in the marine and dredging industry. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in the maintenance and advancement of dredging equipment across the Gulf Coast and elsewhere. David's professional journey was defined by his technical ability and work ethic. He held key roles at Weeks Marine, T.L. James, Dredge Operators, and Williams-McWilliams, among others, serving as Head Port Engineer and Project and Design Engineer. His work included contributing to the design and repair of cutter and hopper dredges, barge systems, and marine vessels. Later on in his career, he applied his knowledge and skill set to assist in the design engineering for Oil & Gas, and CO2 sequestration projects at Pelican Energy Consultants.
Outside his professional career, David was a passionate learner and avid reader. He loved exploring history, science, aviation, space, and classic automobiles. But above all, he cherished his family. His heart has always remained at home in Louisiana. He was married to his wife, Dianne, for over 61 years and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church in
Metairie, LA.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne Trapani Diliberto; his children, Marc David Diliberto (Holly Hoskins Diliberto), Matthew James Diliberto, and Marcella Diliberto Tassin (Peter Jean Tassin, Jr.); his brother, Juan Louis Diliberto; and his cherished grandchildren, Jordan Bendix Diliberto, Ivy Nicole Diliberto, and Myles David Tassin.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin F. Diliberto and Lillian Beer Diliberto, as well as his second wife Elba Acevedo Diliberto and third wife Elizabeth Anne Diliberto.
