David N. Downs of Neenah passed away suddenly at the age of 76 on Friday, February 14th, 2025 while he was on vacation in Florida.
David was born to Neal and Barbara (Meyer) Downs on February 9th, 1949 in Pickett, Wisconsin. He graduated from Menasha High School in 1967. David was drafted during the Vietnam War. Within a few days of shipping out to the front lines, the U.S. Army decided they needed his carpentry skills at Fort Riley, Kansas, along with a short assignment in Germany. Dave was grateful to participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight last summer, with a welcome home ceremony during the EAA AirVenture. Dave also became a member of the American Legion Post 33 and enjoyed taking part in the brat fries at Festival Foods in Neenah.
As a skilled carpenter, he will leave a legacy in the many homes he helped to build in Oshkosh and the surrounding area. He was the owner of Road Runner Construction, Inc. and Dream Homes by David Downs. He was a founding member of the Winnebago Home Builders Association and often showcased his craft by having homes in the Parade of Homes.
David will be missed by his wife of nearly 40 years, Joyce; his children: Lynne (Todd) Krueger; Jean (Shannon) Kenevan; Michael (Pam) Downs; Susan (Chris) Chandre; Sarah (Jason Uhe) Downs; Amanda (Kraig Kaufman) Schmidt; and Lanette (Davide) Macchi; his grandchildren: Tia Krueger; Emmalea & Lucy Kenevan; Greg, Gavin & Carter Downs; Aiden, Emma & Aaron Chandre; and Emilio & Ettore Macchi; his siblings: Jerry (Carol) Downs; Janice Peterson; Linda Jarosinski; Diane (Gene) Schabo; and Faith Quick; his in-laws Linda (Gary) Stafford; Terry (Bill Sobieski) Erickson; Dick Martell; Kathy (Tim) Murphy; Nancy (Kevin) Labby; David Martell; Judy (Lee Hartson) Martell; and Ronald Martell, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory, grandsons Coy Downs and Kellan Downs, brother Rob, brothers-in-law Pete Peterson and Jeff Quick, and sister-in-law Christine Schmidt.
Dave's children and grandchildren were very important to him, and he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them. Dave really enjoyed the finer things in life; like a good Pepsi, a decadent slice of cheesecake, a footlong Prime Rib Cheesesteak from the Inferno Subs food truck, and a triple chocolate doughnut.
Funeral services for Dave will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday March 8, 2025 at MillCity Church 120 Lake St., Neenah. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
In David's memory, and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Old Glory Honor Flight or a charity of your choice.
