David S. DuBose, III, 66, loving husband of Catherine Cummings DuBose, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 3, 2024.
Born on October 12, 1957 in Waco, TX, he grew up in Columbia, SC and Louisville, KY. He was the oldest son of the late David St. Pierre, Jr. and Isabel Hildebrand Morton.
David had a deep love for the Lord, his family and the great outdoors, finding joy in hunting and fishing off the coast. The beach brought him peace and allowed him to bask in the beauty of God's creation. He regaled us with stories about working on Burwell Manning's farm all those summers ago and referred to himself as "The Bartender To the Stars" after working at the Ivy in Los Angeles.
His masterful creations in the kitchen delighted the palates of many and served as a testament to his love of celebrating life with his friends and loved ones. When dining out, he was known to "grill" the servers about where exactly the oysters came from From his brilliant culinary skills to his penchant for swiftly conquering the NY Times Crossword puzzle (in ink!), David embodied a rare blend of intellect, humor, and versatility.
David was a Renaissance man, with the ability to fix anything and a lover of history. He was known for being larger than life, for his loyalty to family and friends, and his quick wit. He had a heart of gold.
In addition to his loving wife of 28 years, his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his son, David S. DuBose, IV, his pride and joy; siblings, Marjorie Rogers and husband, Marvin, of Spruce Pine, NC, George Dial DuBose, Sr. and wife, Katherine, of Williamston, SC and Retta Strohecker and husband, J. of Chapin, SC; brother-in-law, Tommy Cummings of Piedmont, CA; as well as many special cousins, nephews, and a niece.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the USA LaCrosse Foundation.

Dial, I am so sorry for your losses. I was reading about Retta when I saw David's name...who I didn't know was part of your great family. We were pee wee footballers together & he never quit smiling. I pray you all find peace and understanding during these hard days. Blessings to all

Oh I wish we had cameras back in the day. This was either the Colonial cup or the Carolina cup.

How many hours did we spend with our toes in the sand in North Litchfield? This is the day we took young David out to Sandy Island and he learned how to swim. I think he was three.

I live in Colorado and just found out about David. I can't process right now. The first half of my life was David. I'm going to try to dig up some photos and maybe even a couple of stories.
