David Michael Dyke

On Sunday, February 1, 2026, the life of an extraordinary dad, brother, friend, and coach was lost.

David (Davey) Dyke was born November 2, 1980, to Gregory and Amy Dyke.

Davey graduated from Eddyville-Blakesburg High School in 1999. While in high school he wrestled for the EB Rockets, advancing to the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament, placing 4th in 1997 and 3rd in 1999. Because of his love of wrestling and the positive impact it had on his life, Davey chose to give back to the EBF wrestling program as an assistant coach for several years. While coaching wrestling, he had the ability to motivate his wrestlers and reminded those from Fremont that tough guys grow up in Fremont. Davey was proud to be part of the EBF Wrestling Coach Staff when they won the Iowa State High School Wrestling Championship in 2014.

Growing up Davey's favorite memories were made on Grandpa Lum's farm, where he spent countless hours riding the four-wheeler and simply enjoying life in the country. Davey loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He enjoyed mushroom hunting but did not enjoy the poison ivy that got him every time. Davey loved watching his Chicago Cubs and looked forward to every NASCAR season starting. He attended many races at Talladega with family, and it was some of his most favorite memories.

He was a lifelong rodeo cowboy and proud member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Achieving the pinnacle of his career by qualifying for and competing in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. An accomplishment that represented the highest level of professional rodeo. He began honing his skills as a teenager, a passion and work ethic that evolved into the opportunity to rodeo in college through the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. He competed at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas and Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. Throughout his career he was a respected member of the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association, Bullriders of America, Professional Bullriders, and the National Federation of Professional Bullriders. Davey earned finals qualifications and championship titles with these organizations on numerous occasions. His accolades were too numerous to recount here, but those who knew him and watched him ride recognized his rare and natural talent. Exceptionally gifted in everything he pursued, he found his calling the first time he climbed on a bull, from that moment on he was hooked, dedicating his life to mastering his craft.

He had worked at DFS in Oskaloosa for several years, and last he was employed at JBS at the Hedrick "Y".

He loved to spend time golfing with his buddies, especially when he could take Cullen with him. Davey looked forward to every racoon hunting season when he would go hunting with Jeremy, Brayden, Merrick, and Jensen Brink. He was especially excited when Cullen and Jensen were old enough to tag along.

The greatest joy in Davey's life was his son, Cullen. The love between Davey and Cullen was undeniable. He was a truly loving and devoted father. He adored Cullen and put him above all else. Cullen was the light of his life and Davey enjoyed taking him on bike rides, going fishing, and taking him swimming. He loved watching Cullen play soccer and baseball.

Davey was a beloved uncle to Jacob, Evelyn, and Rosemary, who always looked forward to their time with Uncle David. Despite his sister's military service and frequent relocations, Davey made it a priority to visit her and her family wherever they were stationed.

Davey lived and traveled all over the country and many friends along the way through the rodeo community, his wrestling family, and even the local farming community where he worked.

Davey is survived by his son, Cullen; his mother, Amy Dyke; his sister, Amanda Dixson and her husband, Jake; a nephew, Jacob Dixson, and nieces, Evelyn and Rosemary; extended family; and a countless number of friends that Davey considered family. He is preceded in death by his father, Gregory.

Davey was tough as nails but had the biggest heart. He could motivate you when you thought you had nothing left to give. He would push you to "cowboy up." Davey's legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched through on the wrestling mat, rodeo arenas, and the life of his son.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School in Eddyville, Iowa. Family visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School with services following the visitation. Burial will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bethel Cemetery near Eddyville. Memorials may be made to Cullen Dyke.
