David O. Edy (September 28, 1958 – August 10, 2025)
David O. Edy, a lifelong Hoosier and visual communicator, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, after a courageous battle with a prolonged illness. He was surrounded by love, with his husband, Keith Holdsworth, at his side.
An Indianapolis native, David was born on September 28, 1958. He graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School before pursuing his passion for art at Indiana University’s Herron School of Art, where he earned degrees in Visual Communication and Photography. David used his creative spirit as a graphic designer at the Jewish Post & Opinion, and Mentzer Printing Ink, in addition to his freelance work.
David and Keith embarked on their life’s journey together on April 22, 1989, and formalized their union with marriage on June 27, 2014. Their shared life was rich with travel adventures, cherished time spent with family and friends, and quiet moments cozying up with their beloved cats.
David’s passions were as eclectic as they were heartfelt – photography, travel, especially train travel, listening to and sharing his love of music, western art, home tech, Fiesta tableware, historic preservation, model railroading and more. His passion for travel began in childhood with trips alongside his grandparents and blossomed into decades of shared adventures with Keith—roaming National Parks, historic sites, and local record stores.
David was a founding member of the Fletcher Place Neighborhood Association, dedicating his talents and energy to his community. He published the association’s newsletter for many years, organized home and garden tours and served as treasurer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Terri A. Edy; his grandparents, Mary Ellen and William Maurice “Pat” Patterson; and his mother-in-law, Marian Holdsworth.
David is survived by his husband, Keith Holdsworth; his father-in-law, Kenneth Holdsworth; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Deb Holdsworth; and their children: Bill (Brenda) Holdsworth, Rebecca (John) Cope, and Michael (Sarah) Holdsworth. He also leaves behind five great-nephews and nieces: Ethan, Lena, Elyse, Ivy, and Abraham. David will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22 at 3:00 at Oakley Hammond Funeral Home in Irvington at 5342 E. Washington Street. The visitation will be followed by the funeral at 4:00.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 26th at 11:00 AM at Preemption Cemetery, Preemption, Illinois with Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, assisting the family.
