David Figge Obituary

David Figge, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, departed this world on August 26, 2024 at his home, leaving behind a legacy knitted into the very fabric of his family and community. Born on January 10, 1954, in Onaga, Kansas, David embraced life with a warmth that filled every room he entered. His captivating smile and infectious humor resonated through all the lives he touched, creating a wellspring of love and laughter that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

For over four decades, David dedicated himself to the local telephone company, showcasing an unwavering work ethic that culminated in his retirement in 2018. His commitment extended beyond his professional life; for many years, he served on the St Marys Township board, embodying the spirit of civic duty and community service. In all his roles, David exhibited an endless reservoir of knowledge, ready to lend advice or share a story that often lightened the mood, making his presence a cherished gift to many.

David's passion for life was mirrored in his hobbies. He was an avid deer hunter and loved to fish, finding solace in nature's embrace. His skilled hands also crafted various woodworking projects, each piece bearing a reflection of his creativity and dedication. Alongside these pursuits, he enjoyed raising cattle, all the while nurturing vibrant bonds with family and friends over a cold beer or while engrossed in old western films.

Above all, David cherished the time spent surrounded by his loved ones. It was in these moments-especially during his famous shrimp boil every Christmas Eve-that his heart radiated pure joy. Family meant everything to him; his grandkids were the light of his life, and he adored them with an intensity that showcased the strength of his spirit. He was not just family-oriented but ornery as hell, often igniting laughter and shared joy that lingered long after the days had come to an end.

David leaves behind his devoted wife, Janet Figge; his children Nathan (Sue) Figge, Brenda (Shane) Sommars, and Therron (Jessica) Figge; and his grandchildren, Addison, Brianna, Sophia, Walker, Taegan, Kyler, Zach, and Dylan, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. His brother Bob Figge and sisters Mary O'Donnell, Eva (Fred) Burgoon, and Barb (Lanny) Mullinix remain a testament to his everlasting familial bonds.

He is reunited now with his parents, Carl and Leota Figge, and his brother, Bill Figge, in the eternal embrace of peace. David Figge's journey through life may have concluded, but the ripples of his love, humor, and devotion will resonate, forever cherished by those he leaves behind. A memorial visitation was held at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, KS, on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A private family interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys at a later date.
