David Norman Finger, 73, of Ankeny, IA passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Ankeny while recovering from surgery due to complications of Diabetes.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 1:00-2:30 PM at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA) followed by the interment with his wife, Ann, at 2:30 PM.
Dave was born on January 11, 1951, to Norman and Mary Finger in Waterloo, IA. After Dave graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1969, he enlisted in the Navy and served for 6 years on submarines based in Guam. Following his service, he went on to study Math at the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating, Dave worked for John Deere in Waterloo and later as a Systems Analyst for the State of Iowa in Ames.
He met his wife, Ann, in Waterloo at the bank where she worked. They married in 1978 in Fort Atkinson, IA and went on to have two sons, Matt and Jeff, and built their home in Ankeny, IA. They were very active in the community and spent countless hours with their sons and their Boy Scout troop.
Dave retired in 2009 and spent his time woodworking, camping and fishing with his family and volunteering with his wife at numerous local organizations. They shared a love for nature and enjoyed working on their flower beds to attract birds, squirrels, butterflies and bees. You would also find their Beagle, Belle, following them around or sitting right beside them at the dinner table, getting her own special home cooked meal. We could always tell who their favorite was.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ann Finger, and his parents Norman and Mary Finger. Survived by his sons, Matt Finger and Jeff (Lindsay) Finger; his four grandchildren, Davis, Bradley, Madisyn and Peyton; his sisters, Cindy (Jason Paras) Hay and Gail (Jay) Neptune; his mother-in-law, Mable Schwamman; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
