David W. Foote Sr.

David W. Foote Sr., age 88, of Madison, and recent resident of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Concord Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
He was born September 15, 1936, in Columbus, the son of Maurice and Dorothy (Melick) Foote. He married Shirley Harter in Richmond, IN on July 6, 1957.
A graduate of Ohio University, David started in the Madison School System teaching geography. He left teaching to join State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster, rising to regional manager. He was a partner at Environment Control Corporation in Painesville for several years, eventually joining Nationwide Insurance in 1976. He loved serving the residents of Madison, Geneva, and the surrounding area until his retirement in 2001.
David and his wife, Shirley, were active members at the Geneva Church of Christ where he served as an elder for thirty years. They loved spending time with family, driving through the Amish communities, and traveling to Maine, especially in autumn, for lobster and Congdon's Doughnuts. David was a strong community member and elected official. He served on the Madison School Board and the Lake County School Board for years. Once as the President of the Madison School Board, David was able to present one of his son's diplomas having signed it as "Dad".
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Harter) Foote; sons, David (Sue Ellen) Foote, Jr., Daniel (Amy) Foote, Douglas (Patti) Foote, Darren (Jerri) Foote; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Plans are to have a Memorial Service later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva Church of Christ, PO Box 160, Geneva, OH 44041-0160.
