David Lee Ganaway, 69, a resident of Bayou Vista, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Ochsner St. Mary.

David was born May 17, 1956, the son of George Washington Ganaway and Omicle Meaux Ganaway.

David was a proud Army veteran who served valiantly during the Vietnam War. After his service, he dedicated his career to being a skilled diesel mechanic, a trade that he approached with the same determination and passion he brought to every aspect of his life.As the baby of the family, David was always a mama’s boy, and his odd sense of humor was one of his defining characteristics. It was this humor, along with his adventurous spirit, that brought joy to family gatherings and left lasting memories in the hearts of his loved ones. He often reminisced about driving trucks through the stunning scenery of Canada and had dreams of fishing in Vancouver with his sons, David III and Mark—an adventure he wished to share but never had the chance to fulfill.David was also a fantastic cook, known especially for his beloved gumbo, which was a family favorite at gatherings. His love for life extended to many interests, including riding his motorbike and trying his luck at the casino.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Elizabeth Stacey, Crystal Bell, Amber Ganaway, David Ganaway III, Marc Wilson Ganaway; mother of David and Marc, Jocelyn Ganaway; numerous grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verna Ganaway

David was preceded in death by his parents, George and Omicle Ganaway; son, David Ganaway Jr.; two brothers, Wayne Ganaway and Gregory “Greg” Ganaway.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Morgan City Cemetery, with Pastor Mack Berseygay officiating. Military honors will also be rendered by the Patterson Memorial 12182 VFW, as well as Ft. Johnson.
