David Gant Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Powell Funeral Home of Woodruff County on Dec. 9, 2025.
David Elton Gant, 78, of Augusta, Arkansas departed this life on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Woodruff County Health Center in McCrory, Arkansas.

He was born September 1, 1947 in Weldon, Arkansas to the late John and Pauline Gant.

David was a 1965 graduate of Carver high school now known as Augusta High School. He moved to New York shortly after graduation in hopes of building a better life with his family. He was drafted soon after and proudly served in the United States Army, spending time in Vietnam where he was a squad leader. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. After his service, David lived in several places before eventually returning home to Augusta, where he worked for the Highway Department for many years. He was a devoted member of Lake Grove Church. David had a lifelong passion for race cars and sports cars. He especially cherished the time spent building cars alongside his brother, who was a race car driver. David will be remembered for his courage, dedication, and love for family and the things that brought him joy.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Beverly Wright (Earnest) and Brenda Gant of Augusta, his aunt, Stella Gant of Missouri, his sister in law, Denise Gant, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Charles Gant, Paul Edward Gant, James Author Gant, Eddie Lee Gant, Chester Lewis Gant, and Thomas Gene Gant.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home of Woodruff County in Augusta, Arkansas. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at New Quiet Cemetery in Augusta, Arkansas.
