Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merkle Funeral Service, Inc. - North Monroe on Nov. 15, 2025.
David Lee Gibson was born July 29, 1991, in
Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of John Gibson and Paula (Mayes) Gibson Lange. David attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 2009. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and a concealed weapon carrier.
As a young boy, David spent countless hours at the nursing home where his mother worked. It was there that he developed his appreciation for his elders. He enjoyed visiting the residents to ensure that they didn't feel alone.
He worked several different jobs as a stockperson for Walmart and Tractor Supply Company, both allowing David to interact with the public. He was also employed for several years alongside his stepfather at Scottie's Potties. David was extremely patriotic, showing his love for US veterans both active and retired. He always took the time to personally thank them or open a door.
For many years, David enjoyed knocking down the pins at Nortel Lanes or throwing darts with his sister: Jennifer. He loved to cook and prepare healthy recipes but mastered Chinese oriental food and chicken and dumplings. He loved being an online gamer competing against other gamers from across the country. He never let being an amputee keep his spirits down. In fact, David was so proud to have finally been fitted for a prosthetic leg, knowing he was given his freedom back. He cherished time spent with his sisters; two dogs: Duke and Diesel the labrador/pitbull mix, as well as the labrador retriever: Banjo, who was also his therapy dog.
David and his mother spent countless hours together. They weren't only mother and son but the best of friends. They had each other's back through thick and thin. David also shared a special bond with his stepfather: Gary Lange.
David Lee Gibson, age 34 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday; November 12, 2025. He fought a valiant fight with kidney failure for the past four years. His passing was preceded by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his aunt: Linda Suttles.
To cherish David's memory, he leaves his loving mother and stepfather: Paula and Gary Lange of Monroe; his father: John Gibson; a sister: Jennifer Mayes of Monroe; his half-sister: Sue Marsee of Virginia; an uncle: Jim Suttles; cousin: Scott Suttles; three stepbrothers; two half-sisters; and several aunts and uncles.
