David Gilliam Obituary
Publish in a newspaper
David was born May 20, 1948, to the late Howard and Viola Davis Gilliam. After retirement from Square D as a tool and die maker, he completed a second associates degree and worked as a land survey technician. David was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman who was known for his smile, sense of humor, and fine attention to detail. He enjoyed camping with his family and loved to run and play guitar. He spent many years coaching softball and baseball in the Swannanoa Valley, touching many young lives. David played in the "Old Timer's League" until the fall of 2024.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, James "Jake" Gilliam, Aaron "Bo" Gilliam, William "Cotton" Gilliam, Pat Waycaster and Betty Sue Gilliam.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Eric Gilliam (Brook), Monica Allen (Zack), and Demetria Gilliam-Williams (Keith); grandchildren, Logan, Azia, Teah, Keebryn, Koltyn, and Mary Jane; sister, Kathy Reagan (Ed) and brother, Gary "Mickey" Gilliam (Helen) and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00am in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. Stanley Willet officiating.
