David Gleeson, a resident of the Bronx, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Curraglass, Glenflesk, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, he was the son of the late Denis and Mary (Donoghue) Gleeson. David grew up on a sheep farm in Ireland with his 11 siblings. He attended national school in Glenflesk and then secondary school in Killarney and was educated by the De La Salle Brothers. David briefly attended college in Cork before working in England as a bartender. He recounted that at this pub in Hammersmith, London he was recognized for an exceptional Guiness pour. David immigrated to the United States in 1952. His older brother Maurice sponsored him in Worcester, Massachusetts. While living in Worcester he worked in the laundry at St. Vincent's Hospital. Following this, he proudly served in the United States Army. Upon leaving the army David trained with Delehanty Institute in order to receive his HVAC certification. As a result, David began working for Metro North Railroad and maintained the heating and air conditioning in Grand Central Station and on many trains for 35 years. David met his beloved wife Mary Mooney at a dance at the Jager House in Manhattan, NY. They married on October 30th, 1971, in Good Shepard Church in Inwood, NY. David and Mary spent many happy years together until her death in 2020.

David was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. People always said he was a gentleman and had a kind way about him. He had a rather understated sense of humor. He loved being around people and chatting with them. David was very much guided by his strong faith in God. He was a devout parishioner of St. Barnabas in Woodlawn, and when he would come upstate to visit family, he enjoyed attending Mass at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.

In his younger years, David coached baseball for the Woodlean Boys and Girls Club. He enjoyed listening to Irish music, taking photos, going for walks in Tibbetts Brook Park and the New York Botanical Gardens, and reading (especially Yeat's poetry). David often recited poetry and his favorite was The Isle of Innisfree.

He loved keeping busy by going to the Fishkill Senior Center for chair yoga classes and taking computer classes at Blodgett Memorial Library. Working outside in the garden, bird watching and helping others with small jobs was satisfying. David enjoyed watching Gaelic football with his sister-law-Margaret and husband Tom. He was grateful to make some trips to Ireland and spent time with his surviving in laws: Eileen Gleeson, Josephine Maguire, Michael Mooney and his wife Marie, Ann Meenehan and her husband Brendan, Eileen Corcoran, Kathleen Ward and her husband Jim.

For the last five years, David walked and raised money for Miles for Melanoma, a charity near and dear to his heart because of his beloved wife Mary.

David is survived by his beloved children: Marie Considine and her husband Eugene, Denis Gleeson, David Gleeson and his wife Melissa, and Carol Gleeson; his grandchildren: Devon, Sierra, James and Charlotte; his siblings: Maurice Gleeson, Eileen Casey, Mary Dignam and Johnny Gleeson. His presence will be greatly missed by neighbors, friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife Mary, David was predeceased by his siblings: Ann, Bridie, Sheila, Denny, Michael, Jimmy and Father Tim MSC, his nieces: Mary Blalock and Helen Casey, his nephews: David Casey, Michael Coogan, Mark Dignam and Michael Mooney and his in-laws: Michael Coogan, Nora Gleeson, Kathleen Gleeson, Mel Casey, Vincent Dignam, Joseph Corcoran and John Maguire.

Gone but not forgotten, rest in peace.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday November 20, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill 1089 Main St. Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday November 21, 2025, at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church 106 Jackson St. Fishkill, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
