David Gunn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wallingford Funeral Home - Wallingford on Oct. 1, 2025.
David F. Gunn of Wallingford passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Newbury, Vermont. He was born in New Haven, CT in 1965 to Frederick and Margaret (Crouch) Gunn.
Raised in Wallingford, Dave graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1983. Soon after, he began his career as a union carpenter and proudly remained a member of Local 24 for 42 years. A master craftsman, he most recently worked as a Project Superintendent with Downes Construction in New Britain, where he was a valued leader and respected colleague.
Known to his friends as Gunny, Gunster, Big Gunn, and Gunno, Dave had a lifelong passion for riding and racing dirt bikes. He was a proud member of the New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA) and competed nationally in the expert class of the Grand National Cross-Country Series (GNCC). To many, he was not only a fierce competitor, but also a mentor and friend. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Connecticut Ramblers Motorcycle Club, as well as an honorary member of the Meriden Motorcycle Club.
Above all, Dave was devoted to his family. He cherished time spent with them at their lake house, creating lasting memories
Dave is survived by his father, Frederick G. Gunn; his sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Kevin Albert; his nephews, Daniel (Elizabeth) Albert and Cody (Patricia) Albert; his great-nephew, Weston Albert; his great-nieces, Andie and Hannah Albert; his uncle, Ralph Crouch; his aunt, Shirley Crouch; his girlfriend, Melissa Buinickas; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Margaret C. Gunn.
Family and friends are invited to gather in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Friday, October 3rd, from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be held privately at North Haven Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be made to the Meriden Motorcycle Club, 110 Stantack Rd., Middletown, CT.

Dave was such a great human. He was very supportive and we enjoyed all his "war" stories. He was encouraging of myself and when we had had children, my son. Actually gave him his first beer at the Amo.
He was ll be missed by many more than he would have ever guessed. RIP Dave. Ride free.

Knowing Dave:

What moves through us is a silence, a quite sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why Dave left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. A moment lasts all of a second, but a memory lives on forever. When someone you love, admire and respect becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Life brings tears, smiles, and memories. The tears dry, the smiles fade, but the memories last forever and that their life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Dave never one not to confront a challenge head-on, there is a comfort knowing that the heavens above now have "got a guy for that". A great soul serves everyone all the time; a great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again. Dave will live on in our memories forever.

Condolences to all Dave's family and friends.
