It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of David John Guthrie, 70, of Morehead City, when the Lord peacefully called him home on Monday, February 9, 2026, at home.
An hour long visitation will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery.
David John Guthrie was born on October 13, 1955, in Morehead City and grew up there as well. He graduated from West Carteret and then started a career at the post office to which he dedicated himself for nearly 30 years. Not ready for retirement, he would split the next 20 years between RadioShack, Sears and Kmart, being enviously keen with electronics.
David loved fishing and shared this passion with his son, Andrew. He was a musician and played multiple instruments but his favorite was bass guitar, which he played in the band named Landfall, whose members he met in high school. They would perform “gigs” locally on and off for nearly 50 years. David also joined the Promised Land Society, combining his appreciation for his heritage and the history of Morehead City, his lifelong home. He was also a skilled amateur photographer, which his love for the area manifested through as many of his photos were of local landmarks and nature.
David was at his best around family. Devoted father, son and brother and his life is testament to family and perseverance. His home was a refuge for his sons, where humorous wisdom, support and determination outweighed any adversity.
He is survived by his brother, LeRoy Kirth Guthrie Jr; his sister, Jennifer Guthrie Robinson; and his two sons, Thomas John Guthrie and Andrew Lee Guthrie; whom he shared with Vonda Pratt Guthrie; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Kirth Guthrie Sr. and Annie Mae Parker Guthrie; and his two sisters, Carolyn Guthrie Green and Julia Annette Lutz.
