David Cameron Hanaway passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dave served for 21 years in the United States Air Force. He began his military career at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, serving on an underground Atlas 2 missile launch crew. Abilene is where he met and married his wife, Elsie. He served in Viet Nam from 1972-1973. After his military retirement, he was a Realtor in San Antonio for several years.
Dave and Elsie had three children, Dawn, Sherri, and their late son, David.
Dave had a zest for life, and was a man of strong faith. He was a loving husband and father, a loyal companion, and a reliable friend. His everyday life was one of integrity and wisdom.
His comforting and cheerful presence will be missed, but we rejoice knowing that when he left this earth, he entered his eternal home in heaven with God.
Dave is lovingly survived by his wife, Elsie, and two daughters, Dawn and Sherri, grandchildren, Austin, Noah, Bethany, Daniel, David Paul, Ariana, Madison, and Rosalyn, as well as great grandchildren, Rose, Micah, Josiah, Nathaniel, and Evie.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and family who supported Dave during his illness.
A military graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 21, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas, at 9:45 a.m.
