David Landrum Hanvey, Jr., 97, devoted husband, Father and veteran, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Born in
Seneca, SC, he was a son of the late David and Gaynelle Alexander Hanvey, Sr. and beloved husband to the late Lois Chapman Hanvey.
His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loving children, Vincent Michael "Mike" Hanvey, Richard Mark Hanvey, Brian Patrick Hanvey, Steven "Steve" Gregory Hanvey, and Susan Camille Meyer (Jeff); a sister Nelle McCallister and brother Winston Hanvey; eight adoring grandchildren, Rhiannon Marie Suttles (Nolan), Blake Matthew Hanvey, Richard Mark "Little Mark" Hanvey, II, Ryan Barrett Hanvey, Heather Camille Hanvey, Jennifer Kajs Berger (Thomas), Jessica Brooke Kajs, and Sydney Meyer Tittle (Justin); also many precious great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Lois, David was reunited in death with two of his children, David Landrum Hanvey, III, and Janice Kajs and her husband, Greg, daughter-in-law Ronda Hanvey; brothers Larry Hanvey and Earl Wendall Hanvey and three grandchildren, David Landrum Hanvey, IV, John Anthony Kajs, and Andrew "Drew" Clark Meyer.
A proud veteran of the United States Army and National Guard, David served his country with honor for over 30 years. He was awarded the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He carried the same dedication into his life and career, which allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life.
David's greatest joy came from his family. He was married to Lois for over 69 blessed years, sharing a bond that was an enduring testimony to a life of love. Together, they created a vibrant home where Christmas was celebrated with great enthusiasm, surrounded by family and gifts that reflected their joy and unity. David and Lois were passionate about traveling around the world and seeing new places and meeting new people. He and Lois shared a love for cruising and seeing new exciting ports of call.
David possessed a playful spirit, often enjoying spending time tending to his vegetable garden. He loved sharing this experience with his children. He loved tinkering with his MG and Triumph Spitfire classic cars, that showcased his hands-on approach to life. He enjoyed spending time with his family playing games, especially Canasta, which he was a great player and that all wanted him to be his partner. Known for his enjoyment of Bourbon and Ginger Ale, David embraced every moment with a zest that inspired those around him.
David had a special place in our hearts, and we'll never forget him. He will truly be missed.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with the burial to follow in M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson SC.
