David A. Heier was born on October 23, 1931, to Anton and Alphina (Petrich) Heier in Aberdeen. He grew up in Aberdeen, attending Lincoln Elementary School, Simmons Junior High School and graduated from Central High School in 1950. He was employed with Pepsi-Cola bottling Company for two years before working for Coca-Cola Bottling Company for the next 13 years. On June 14, 1965, he began working at Hub City Iron, which became Hub City, Inc., where he was employed as a machinist until his retirement in 1997.
David loved classic old cars! David drove several of his cars in the Northern State University Gypsy Parade through the years. He enjoyed going to junkyards and auctions where he would find cars to collect. He liked visiting with people talking about cars and sharing his abundant knowledge. You could find David at McDonalds, Hardee's, Wendy's or Burger King talking about the good ole days with his coffee buddies. He was a quiet, but helpful guy and cared about everybody. He loved his nieces and nephews and all the friends he made through the years. David had a special bond with his great niece Annabelle and loved her hugs and kisses. David was also very artistic and was sometimes found doodling cartoons on napkins. He even had an opportunity to go to Lincoln Elementary School to visit a 3rd grade class about his art and he drew each student a picture. The kids really enjoyed his visit! He touched the lives of many, loved a lot, and had a special place in his heart for all those around him. He was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church for many, many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Encompass Health in Sioux Falls, Avera St. Luke's in Aberdeen, and Elise Bauer, Annie Campton, and Justin Greger for the care that was given to David.
