It is with great sadness that we share the passing of David Helton, our beloved husband, father, and brother. He passed away on June 1, 2025 at the age of 58, after a day of doing one of his favorite things, fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Helton, and his mother, Claudette "Cookie" Helton. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Chinkie; his children, Nicholas (Dori), and Julia; his brother, Jimmy (Susan); and his nieces and nephews and his many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
He grew up in Myrtle Grove where he spent his youth and high school years playing baseball, fishing and hunting with his adored father, and causing trouble in Fort Morgan with his brother and cousins. His later years revolved on being a wonderful husband and best friend to Chinkie, coaching Nicholas in baseball, watching Julia play volleyball and soccer and celebrating and beaming with pride talking about everything they did no matter how big or small.
In his final years, he lived in Perdido Key with Chinkie, his children, and dog Ladybird, who became his third child. Nothing made him happier than time spent at the grill, enjoying break time with Jimmy and Susan on their back porch, taking Ladybird everywhere he went like to see the cows, fishing with Nicholas, chatting on the deck with his Sweetpea, Julia,, and enjoying being with Chinkie, especially in the simple moments like having morning coffee together or just talking about the day and the kids. He valued what was most important in life and lived those values every single day. He was a pillar of strength, humor, kindness, gentleness, and warmth not only for his family and friends, but often offered it to strangers as well.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Big Lagoon State Park Governor's Pavilion in Pensacola, Florida. Please stop at the visitor's center and inform the gate attendant that you're attending David Helton's service - park entry fees have been covered by the family. In true David fashion, guests are encouraged to dress casual.
He will be greatly missed, but will always be remembered, celebrated, and loved.
