David Lee Hess

David L. Hess, age 81, of Erie, went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 16, 2026. He was born in Erie on March 30, 1944, son of the late Henry and Marion Hess.

David attended Academy High School and then entered the US Navy, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was very proud of his service in the US Navy. David was employed in the Finishing Department of Hammermill/International Paper. Following that, he was a realtor with Howard Hanna and worked at St. Mary's Nursing Home West.

David was a friend of Bill W. and enjoyed golfing with his friends. He was a big Cleveland Browns fan and watched all the NY Yankees games. David also enjoyed time with his pup, Lilly, and with her, sitting outside with a cup of coffee. He especially loved time spent with his family. David will be greatly missed. "He will live on in our hearts forever."

David is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Sharon Hess; six children, Jennifer Mitchell (Larry), Dawn Lamb (Pat), David Hess, Michelle Sweet (Terry), Krista Auer (Dennis) and Kara Griffith, and; one sister, Joyce Wheeling; former wife and friend, Peg Petro; grandchildren, Sierra, Rylee, Dennis Jr., Patrick Jr., Josh, Jacob, Logan, Tyler, Ashley, Troy, Cassie, Stephanie and Georgia Faith; good friend, Jim Was; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Paul Hess; two grandsons, Christopher Sleeper and Matthew Lamb; one brother, Richard Hess and one sister, Marilyn Terrell.
