David Dennis Hill was born on February 9, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Delbert D and Elenor Soderberg Hill. He spent his early years in Ogden and Salt Lake City. In July 2025, David faced a sudden and serious heart attack, leading to emergency care at Mountain West Hospital and subsequent air transport to University Hospital in Salt Lake City. True to his resilient nature, David initially overcame the cardiac event, enduring two hospitalizations before peacefully passing away at home, surrounded by his beloved sons and cat Ralph on Sunday, August 10, 2025. In 1972 David married Shauna Eve Bircumshaw, together they had two children, Daniel and Jeremy, he also helped raise Shauna's son Mark Wade. David is also the father of Scott and Russel Hill and Barbara Edwards from a previous marriage. David was a hard-working man with a strong work ethic. He spent several years as a press operator with the Salt Lake Tribune; he also owned and operated a successful painting business called D & H Painting for well over a decade in Salt Lake City. David was also proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force. In his retirement David enjoyed doing home improvement projects and making and restoring clocks. David and his wife Shauna often participated in local farmer's markets and small arts festivals around Tooele selling his creations. He also enjoyed playing with his granddaughters, spending time with family and talking politics. David was supportive, funny, smart, and stubborn-a man always looking out for his family. Even in his final days, his greatest concern was our well-being rather than his own. All who knew him will sorely miss his presence. David is survived by his children Scott (LouAnn) Hill, Barbara (Mike) Edwards, Mark Wade (Stepson), Daniel (Michelle) Hill, Jeremy (April) Hill. Nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive him. He is preceded in death by his wife Shauna, son Russel, parents Delbert and Eleanor, his brother Larry, sister-in-law Harriet and beloved cats Kitty, Waffle, and Bobcat. We would like to acknowledge the kindness and care that our Dad received at the University of Utah Hospital and by his hospice care nurse, Maddie and his home healthcare nurse, Heather. A simple graveside service will be held at the Stansbury Park Cemetery on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, or the Tooele Animal Shelter.
