In Loving Memory of Mr. Hilland
It is with great love and respect that I remember my dear friend and fellow Scouter, Mr. Hilland. For many years, he served faithfully under me in Troop 1 as one of my most loyal and dedicated Assistant Scoutmasters. He was never one to seek the spotlight, yet his quiet strength, humor, and steady guidance became the backbone of so many of our troop´s adventures and memories.
Mr. Hilland was the kind of man who led by example-patient, dependable, and full of heart. He loved taking the boys camping, sailing, and especially up into the snow, where his laughter always echoed through the cold morning air. Whether he was showing a Scout how to tie a knot, start a fire, or pitch a tent, he was really teaching something much deeper-self-reliance, teamwork, and confidence.
He never hesitated to give his time, his knowledge, or his compassion. The boys respected him deeply, not because he demanded it, but because he earned it through years of dedication and care. He taught them not only outdoor skills but also life lessons-how to do the right thing even when no one is watching, how to work together, and how to find joy in simple things like a campfire, a sunrise, or a shared story.
To me, he was more than an assistant-he was a partner, a friend, and a brother in Scouting. His love for adventure and his belief in the power of mentoring young men will always remain part of Troop 1´s spirit.
Mr. Hilland will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in every Scout whose life he touched. Those of us who were blessed to serve beside him will carry his memory with pride and gratitude, always remembering the laughter, the lessons, and the heart he brought to everything he did.
Rest easy, my friend. You truly made a difference.
-Mr. Meyer, Scoutmaster, Troop 1
