David Randall Hols, age 89, passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2024. He was born in 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa to John and Edith Hols, who together with his older brother John "Jack" Hols Jr, preceded him in death. In 2022 he lost his beloved wife of 58 years, Marjorie Christine Hols (Schmidt). He is survived by son Brian Hols (Susan) of Minneapolis, daughter Jennifer Hols, and granddaughters Olivia Hols and Shavon Hodges. David was a 1959 graduate of the University of Iowa Law School and began his legal career in Washington DC as a staff attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. A fortunate transfer to the Minneapolis regional office led him to his adopted home state and he soon joined the law firm of Felhaber and Larson, where he pursued a career as a labor and employment law attorney (on the side of management), retiring in 2000. As a prominent attorney with a national reputation, he was widely recognized for his expertise and remained a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education courses. In retirement he became a self-taught woodworker, creating fine furniture for family members. In recent years, he lived at Marvella senior living, where he participated in many activities, including serving on the Resident Advisory Council. While there, he also made many good friends who enjoyed his intellect, great sense of humor and warm congeniality. A memorial service is set for February 22, 3pm, at Marvella Senior Community in St. Paul.

David and Marge were loving parents of two of my second graders, Brian and Jennifer. Besides being a phenomenal family, they were neighbors, too. We were so lucky to have them in our lives. Blessings and prayers to all who knew the treasure of David.
