David Hoopingarner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Samaritan Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services - Terre Haute on Oct. 8, 2025.
David Lee Hoopingarner, 66, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was born on May 20, 1959 to Howard James Hoopingarner, Sr. and Reta Francis (Yates) Hoopingarner in Terre Haute. David proudly served in the United States Air Force and also worked as a heavy equipment operator. He married the love of his life, Natalie (Merlin) Hoopingarner on November 3, 1982.
In his free time, David loved to watch football, especially the Indianapolis Colts. He was very interested in construction equipment, with Caterpillar being his favorite construction company. He also enjoyed lighthouses, history, and watching war movies. One of his favorite things to do was to play board games with his family and get 'free rides' in Monopoly.
David is survived by his loving wife; sons David Lee Hoopingarner II and Jesse Allen Lewis; daughter Erin Elise Hoopingarner (Jacob Edward Hope); brothers Dorn Hoopingarner (Sherri) and Howard James Hoopingarner (Betty); sister Deann Frances Gotz (Ken); many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Ushi.
David is preceded in death by both of his parents; brother Tom Hoopingarner; and sisters Lucinda (Hoopingarner) Collins and Linda (Hoopingarner) Hayne.
Cremation has been entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home at a later date and will be posted once scheduled. Online condolences may be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com
