Cheryl Ann Hoopingarner, 70, of Sioux City, IA, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at home surrounded by family after an illness.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. At 6 p.m., there will be a time for family and friends to share memories of Cheryl.

Cheryl was born on February 7th, 1955 to Roy Shelton Jr. and Wilma Shelton in Carson City, California. On June 23, 1972, Cheryl married Jeffrey Hoopingarner.

Cheryl enjoyed fishing, finding treasures at garage sales, thrift stores, planting flowers, floating with her dog “Minnie” in her pool, soaking up the sun, and anything water related.

Family and friends were most important to her; she enjoyed hosting gatherings at her home for family and friends, trips to see her sister Cathy in Oregon and Betty in Louisiana, and having bonfires with her family. She cherished spending time with her friends Kevin and Linda Anderson, Vicki and Linda Swamberg, and Bob Steffe.

Cheryl was always someone you could lean on. She loved baking with her kids, grandkids, and great-granddaughter, wearing her green apron.

Cheryl shared many great memories with family at Hoop and Jo’s place in Ponca on the river.

Among survivors are her husband, Jeff Hoopingarner; daughters Hillary Hoopingarner and Jessica (Juan) Topete; grandchildren Toni Hoopingarner, Bailey and Braden Barber, Logan and Drew Topete; great-granddaughter Rian Klaus; sisters Janet (Woody) Madison, Cathy Jones, Betty (George) Phillips; mother-in-law Georgetta Hoopingarner; sisters-in-law Sally Nelson, Lisa (Dave) Cline, Vicki Hoopingarner; and brother-in-law Tom Hoopingarner.

Among those who preceded her in death are her mother and father, Roy Jr. and Wilma Shelton, sister Ellen McKinley, father-in-law Norman Hoopingarner, brother-in-law Norman Hoopingarner Jr., sister-in-law Sherry Hoopingarner, and brother-in-law Gus Nelson.
